Creepy: Heidi Klum in her Halloween costume this year

It has become a Halloween tradition: the question of which spectacular costume Heidi Klum will wear. Year after year, the German supermodel turned TV personality outdoes herself with elaborate transformations, making her legendary Halloween party a firm fixture on the celebrity calendar.

She didn’t disappoint her fans this year either: turning up as Medusa, the legendary beautiful woman turned into a snake by a goddess in Greek mythology. With serpents for hair, the sight of which turns living things around her to stone.

“So I wanted to be really, really like a really ugly, ugly Medusa. And I feel like we nailed it — to the teeth,” Klum said before pointing to fangs in her mouth.

Her full-body costume was a work of art by her make-up artist Mike Marino: a green-scaled body, a crocodile tail, claws, huge ears and snakes for hair. According to Klum, the preparation took around ten hours.

At her side was husband Tom Kaulitz, guitarist of the band Tokio Hotel. As in previous years, he was part of her costume – but this time much less colourful than his wife: grey in keeping with mythology, according to which Medusa turns people to stone with her gaze. While Klum carried a bow and arrow, Kaulitz posed with a sword and shield.

Back in September, Klum posted a video on Instagram in which she had her teeth imprinted – a reference to her upcoming Halloween project. “I’m going to be very ugly,” she revealed at the time.

With her elaborately staged costumes, the presenter of ‘Germany’s Next Topmodel’ is a major talking point every year – and has long since achieved cult status.

Heidi Klum’s most elaborate Halloween costumes

10th: Cloning around

Just one clone of yourself would be boring. Heidi Klum brought five “Heidi clones” to her Halloween party in 2016. How long must the casting have taken to discover herself five times over?

9th: Monkey business

In 2011, Heidi Klum dressed up as gorillas with her then husband Seal. She had skin-tight suits made with human bones and muscles drawn on them.

8th: Float like a butterfly

Butterflies are known for their magical transformation after they fall asleep in their cocoon. Heidi Klum presented her Halloween costume from 2014 not only at her party, but also in New York’s Times Square. We wonder how heavy the wings were?

7th: Robot in disguise

A height of almost 2.5 metres seems anything but practical, but Heidi Klum literally outgrew herself for her Halloween party in 2010. With stilts and a flaming red hairstyle, she gained several dozen centimetres to become Heiditron.

6th: Goddess Kali

The top model grew six extra arms for her costume in 2008. Klum modelled her costume on Kali, the Hindu goddess of death and destruction. Probably best to keep her at arm’s length.

5th: Shrek and Fiona’s family party

Film characters are among the most popular sources of inspiration for Halloween costumes and Heidi Klum digs deeply into the well of big screen characters to create spectacular transformations. All in green and with the obligatory big hands and feet, Klum and Kaulitz became Shrek and Princess Fiona in 2018.

4th: Where are the boundaries between man and machine?

Human, machine or naked alien. It’s hard to say exactly what Heidi Klum’s costume in 2019 was supposed to represent. A Borg from Star Trek? Perhaps it was meant to be indefinable but it was certainly spectacularly frightening.

3rd: The peacock with human plumage

Halloween is best celebrated in good company. Dressed as a peacock, In 2023, Klum brought her gang to the party as she made good as a peacock with human feathers. Her husband Tom Kaulitz, although not in the picture, wasn’t forgotten. He was the egg.

2nd: The creepy earthworm

Klum also found inspiration in the animal kingdom in 2022. As an earthworm, she lay down on the red or blue carpet of her Halloween party so that the photographer could capture the sheer size of her costume. Fishing for compliments, we wonder if she had a lot of good conversations that year?

Even after more than 20 years, the top model never seems to run out of ideas – or patience – for elaborate costumes. No expense or effort is spared here. In 2024, Klum made her party unsafe with her husband Tom Kaulitz as Steven Spielberg’s Extra Terrestrial aliens. She herself found this costume the most uncomfortable.

And her fans are already beginning to ask, what transformation will the Queen of Halloween dare to do next?
