Biggest AI investment: Google to invest $15bn in data centre in India

In a landmark announcement, Google has unveiled plans to invest USD 15 billion over the next five years to build an advanced AI-powered data centre campus in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The new facility will serve as Google’s largest AI hub outside the United States, marking a major step in expanding the company’s global AI infrastructure.

The 1-gigawatt data centre campus will be developed in collaboration with Airtel and AdaniConneX, integrating advanced undersea cable systems to enhance connectivity across Asia. The project aims to strengthen India’s digital backbone, providing cutting-edge computing power for AI development, cloud services, and enterprise innovation.

Indian officials have hailed the investment as a milestone in the country’s journey toward technological self-reliance. The initiative is expected to boost the AI startup ecosystem, accelerate research, and create thousands of direct and indirect jobs.

As global technology giants race to establish AI infrastructure, Google’s Visakhapatnam project underscores India’s growing importance as a strategic hub for next-generation computing and digital transformation.
